The Isle of Wight has become an increasingly diverse and interesting holiday destination over the last few years. Of course the sandy beaches and chocolate box villages still remain and attract visitors from all over the world but now there is even more to enjoy about the Isle of Wight. More and more people come to enjoy the food and drink, explore the footpaths and rural cycle paths, take part in Isle of Wight events and festivals, and indulge in sporting activities on the sea and on land.

The Wight Info Isle of Wight Holiday guide is here to give you an insight into some of the better places to visit on the Isle of Wight and to allow you to get the most out of your holiday of the Diamond Isle.

Isle of Wight History

The Isle of Wight has a rich history and evidence of settlements going back to Roman times can still be seen and Brading Roman Villa gives a interesting insight into this era of Isle of Wight history. More modern historical monuments like Carisbrooke Castle take you on a historical journey from the Norman Conquest to the English Civil War and such sites prove both enjoyable and highly informative. The Second World War left its mark on the Isle of Wight too. A number of fortification still remain and a number are open to the public. At Alum Bay there is just such a fort which is owned by the national trust and just above it is a now disused secrete rocket testing site which is free and open to the public all year.

Isle of Wight for Children

In the school holidays there are a number of extra attractions and events for children and families. The Isle of Wight beaches, of which many are good for swimming, are a cheap and easy source of family entertainment but if you are looking for something a bit different it wont be hard to find it.
